At Xterminate Pest Management, our flea treatments are designed to target active flea infestations while helping break the flea life cycle and reduce the chance of the problem returning.

Before your technician arrives, we recommend preparing the property to help achieve the best possible treatment results. This includes thoroughly vacuuming carpets and rugs, mopping hard floors, cleaning upholstered furniture, washing pet bedding and cleaning areas where your pets regularly sleep or rest. Pay particular attention to areas underneath furniture and other spaces that aren't regularly disturbed.

Once onsite, our technician will inspect the property for signs of flea activity and identify common harbourage areas before beginning treatment.

How We Treat Fleas

Depending on the property and level of infestation, our professional flea treatment may include:

  • Targeted internal liquid treatments
  • External treatments to suitable areas where flea activity may occur
  • Products containing an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) where appropriate, helping disrupt flea development and reproduction
  • Treatment of cracks, crevices and common flea harbourage areas
  • Insecticidal dust applications where appropriate
  • Targeted treatment around pet resting and sleeping areas

For safety, pets and occupants may need to leave treated areas during the application and remain away until the required re-entry period has passed or treated surfaces are dry, depending on the products used. Your technician will provide specific instructions.

It's also important to have your pets treated for fleas using an appropriate veterinary flea treatment. Treating the property without addressing fleas living on pets can contribute to another infestation.

Rodent activity may also contribute to flea problems in some properties, so if we identify evidence of rats or mice, we may recommend a separate rodent-control treatment.

Flea Treatment & Prevention Tips

Successfully controlling fleas usually means addressing the property, pets and flea life cycle at the same time. To help prevent and control future flea activity:

  • Vacuum carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture regularly.
  • Pay extra attention to underneath furniture and other low-traffic areas.
  • Wash pet bedding, blankets and washable fabrics frequently.
  • Keep your pets on an appropriate ongoing flea-prevention program recommended by your vet.
  • Regularly check pets for signs of fleas, particularly after they've spent time outdoors.
  • Keep pet sleeping and resting areas clean.
  • Dispose of vacuum contents promptly after cleaning an infested property.
  • Keep lawns and outdoor pet areas maintained where practical.
  • Follow all preparation and aftercare instructions provided by your pest-control technician.

Don't Be Alarmed by Some Activity After Treatment

Because flea eggs and pupae can be difficult to eliminate immediately, some flea activity may continue for a period after treatment as immature fleas develop and emerge. Continuing to vacuum regularly helps stimulate emergence so newly emerged fleas can come into contact with treated surfaces.

FAQ'S

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY HOME PROFESSIONALLY TREATED FOR PESTS

We recommend a general pest control treatment every 12 months for most homes. Properties with higher pest activity or surrounding bushland may benefit from more frequent treatments.

DO I NEED TO LEAVE MY HOME DURING THE TREATMENT?

Depending on the treatment being carried out, you may be asked to leave the property for a short period. Your technician will advise you before treatment and provide clear re-entry instructions.

ARE YOUR TREAMENTS SAFE FOR CHILDERAN & PETS?

Yes! We use professional products that are applied according to Australian regulations and manufacturer guidelines. We recommend keeping children and pets away from treated areas until they are completely dry.

CAN RAIN EFFECT MY PEST CONTROL TREATMENT?

Light rain after treatment will usually not affect the effectiveness of professionally applied products. During heavy rain or severe weather, we may recommend rescheduling certain external treatments for the best results.

HOW LONG UNTIL I SEE RESULTS?

Many pests begin dying within hours of treatment, while others may take several days depending on the treatment method and pest species. Some increased activity immediately after treatment is normal as pests come into contact with the products.
